Discover the vineyards near Santiago: Wine Routes

The wine route in Chile offers several ways to explore and discover the varieties of Chilean wines. Wine route tours include visits to wineries, tastings guided by experienced sommeliers, bike rides through vineyards and more. Chilean vineyards, with a 460-year tradition, grow grape varieties that produce wines recognized worldwide for their quality and flavor, such as Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, among others. The wine route is mainly concentrated in five areas located in the center of the country: Maule Valley, Maipo Valley, Colchagua and Cachapoal Valley, Casablanca Valley, and Aconcagua Valley. In addition, there are more roads to be discovered.

  • Maule Valley: The largest and one of the oldest valleys in Chile, known as the cradle of Chilean wine at the time of the Spanish conquistadors. The most outstanding varieties are Carignan, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Visitors can enjoy hotel services, high level gastronomy and activities such as horseback riding and trekking.
  • Maipo Valley: Located near Santiago, this is Chile's oldest wine region and is home to the main headquarters of the country's great traditional wineries. Here you can learn about the history of Carmenere, a grape variety of French origin that is the protagonist of Chile's central valleys.
  • Colchagua Valley: With more than a dozen wineries open to the public, this valley offers tastings, trekking, culinary samples, bicycle tours and horseback riding.
  • Cachapoal Valley: In this area you can take tours of the vineyards, wineries and facilities, bike rides, horseback riding and barbecues. Viña Altair stands out with its night wine tour and the tasting of Sideral, its ultra premium wine.
  • Casablanca Valley: Only an hour and a half from Santiago, this valley has vineyards especially dedicated to wine tourism. It is the largest producer of Chardonnay in Chile and offers wines with Chilean appellation of origin. Most of the wineries require prior reservation.
  • Aconcagua Valley: With a privileged location between Santiago and Valparaiso, this valley is very visited by tourists traveling to Isla Negra. It stands out for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carmenere, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot.

All seasons of the year are special to visit these destinations. In spring, the vineyards are filled with different shades of green in the vine leaves. In autumn, they take on yellow and reddish colors. In winter, the cold and snow-capped mountains create a climate conducive to tastings and romance. And in summer, in addition to high temperatures, the grape harvest is celebrated with festivals and life in the vineyards. In short, each season offers different charms on the route through Chile's vineyards.
